OK you have a beat and some melodic instruments going. What do you use, hardware or software to go from your drums bass and synth , keeping the rythm in place, but morph your instrumentation to different drums bass and synth. My nephew had this toy DJ MIXER thing, that you plug into your computer and then by pushing the joystick around you would get this effect, but it was just four presets, one of each of the four corners and you didn't have any creative input.

I think one solution in a studio would be put down the tracks say, in Sonar and have midi playing   a soft synth in one track and have a copy of the same midi which is playing a different soft synth in another track, ( could be a hardware synth for that matter and then route the stereo audio into another track). Then you couldl crossfade the results.

Should ABsynth4 or Reaktor have this as a characteristic of their basic functions?  Or is Absynth just a patch you put in the track with not so much realtime function other than sounding as a dynamic patch?

ok thanks for any input if this is clear.

I see doing this a couple of ways. It depends on what you already have...

A) If you have a robust DAW you could simply record your own tweaks as MIDI info and let the patch itself change over time using the recorded Controller Automation.

B) NI KORE 2 (you did name 2 NI products) uses scenes where you could morph preset settings.

It's touched on here...page 94 of the manual...

Every KoreSound can store up to eight different settings of its Control Pages. These can be recalled directly or you can morph between the settings of the knobs (not the buttons) creating seamless sound transitions.

Define some Controllers on your User, Channel or Plug-in Pagesand click the Sound Variation Save Button. It starts to blink in yellow and you can choose one of the eight Variations on the Variation Grid. Click it and the Variation is saved.

The crosshair symbol below the Save button is called Sound Variation Morphbutton. When activated (yellow) you can seamlessly move between the different Sound Variationswith your mouse or your KORE 2 Controller.

If the Sound Variation Morphbutton is inactive, you can only switch the Variations discretely, leading to jumps in the parameter values. This also works when you use your KORE 2 Controller for changing Variations.

Furthermore, you can switch the Sound Variationsdirectly via the eight buttons of your KORE 2 Controller. Please read the chapter about your KORE 2 Controller to learn more about using the KORE 2 hardware.

 C) VST Pay http://www.prosoniq.com/ Prosoniq morph

Audio Morphing Plugin that creates seamless sound morphs between two different input sounds. Includes highly intuitive 2D control to dynamically morph between input sounds, fully 32bit floating point operation in real time, SOLO functionality, high quality Reverb, parameters fully automatable and morphing parameter controllable via MIDI by an assignable MIDI controller.

*they also have audio examples...

D) If pure effects is your thing then consider Izotope Spectron

http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/spectron/

Usability Enhancements: Automation
Do you have a really cool patch, but wish you could control some of the effects more precisely, or control many parameters at once? Spectron offers over 225 automatable parameters, which means that almost anything that you want to automate in your host application can be assigned. For instance, if you have a section of a drum break that you want to twist and melt into a completely arrhythmic mess at the end, you can automate an increase in delay time and feedback just for the part that you want. If you want to add a filter drop in a synth line, just automate an increase in a filter node’s bandwidth or cutoff frequency. You can get really creative with this, and it always pays off to experiment. With a little ingenuity, you can hand-craft completely immersive and evolving soundscapes that were previously impossible without loads of effects and a crack team of synthesis masters at the wheel!

E) Free VST Beat Morpher

Beat Morpher

Beat morpher is a sample playback drum machine that lets you morph between two rhythms. You specify start and end positions for each drum hit. Then you can morph from one pattern to the next. Each drum hit shifts in time from the start to end position. This effect was inpsired by the music of Simon Posford.

Download v1.1

F) Lots of plugs and apps work off Timing (groove) Templates so you can use the drum pattern from one track apply it to the second. Lots of ways to manipulate the loops. Fxpansion GURU does this well.

Wow thanks a lot.  that was the kind of reply I was looking for. A few variations. I have lots of hardware.. and NI Kore, but I just got it and haven't practised with it engough to know how to use it best. Thanks again.

You should make some kind of manual for Beat Morpher. I can't get it to do anything but play kicks instead of the metronome.

And then Griffin should come to your house and do your dishes.

I do have a picture for this, but it will probably get me banned.

I'm just saying to be suggesting something- it should be easier to use.

I did figure it out, but it took some work.

Not the most flexible piece either.

BTW

nuff said.
