LL Cool J to Attend The Long Island Music Hall of Fame Second Annual Induction Gala on October 21, 2007 at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College

(Long Island, NY)—Multi-platinum-selling hip-hop recording artist and actor LL Cool J will be a star inductee at The Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s (www.limusichalloffame.org) second annual Induction Gala on October 21st at the Colden Auditorium of the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College, the organization announced today.

LL Cool J is among the big names who will be appearing at the 2007 Long Island Music Hall of Fame Induction Gala, in an event that is sure to rival last year’s festivities. (See the list of inductees below). This year’s Queens induction venue is especially significant, given the connections that many of the 2007 nominees and presenters have to the borough. More about this at www.limusichalloffame.org.

LL Cool J (James Todd Smith) is a hip-hop artist and actor. He is known for romantic ballads such as "I Need Love" and "Hey Lover" as well as pioneering pop rap like "I Can't Live Without My Radio", "I'm Bad", "Boomin' System", and "Mama Said Knock You Out", and "4, 3, 2, 1". He has also appeared in several films and television shows. LL Cool J is one of a few hip-hop stars of his era to sustain a successful recording career for more than two decades. He has released 12 albums and a greatest hits compilation so far, with his latest album, Exit 13, having been released this earlier this month. The album will be the last for LL's record deal with Def Jam Recordings, a deal which has lasted for over twenty two years, making it the longest single hip hop deal to date. More about him online at http://www.defjam.com/site/artist_home.php?artist_id=202.

LL Cool J will be inducted by his friend, rap music pioneer Grandmaster Flash, into the Hall at this year’s event.

LIMHOF Chairman Richard L’ Hommedieu said: “We’re very excited that LL Cool J, one of the great survivors in the hip-hop world, has agreed to join Grandmaster Flash and so many others to help us celebrate Long Island’s rich musical heritage. We look forward to a great evening in October.”

About LIMHOF - The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3) membership organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which defines Long Island geographically rather than politically, as Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties, was created as a place to inspire in each person the desire to explore and celebrate music in all its forms and to be a place where the music community will find the support, resources and leadership necessary to aid them in that exploration. The Long Island Music Hall of Fame sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, traveling educational exhibits and is working to create a permanent home for the story of the Island’s musical heritage.

They will present their Second Annual Long Island Music Hall of Fame Induction Gala on October 21, 2007 at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College CUNY, in Flushing, Queens. Darryl McDaniels of Run-D.M.C. to be a Presenter at The Long Island Music Hall of Fame Second Annual Induction Gala on October 21, 2007 at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College

(Long Island, NY)—Multi-platinum-selling hip-hop recording pioneer D.M.C. will be a star presenter at The Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s (www.limusichalloffame.org) second annual Induction Gala on October 21st at the Colden Auditorium of the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College, the organization announced today.

D.M.C. is among the big names who will be appearing at the 2007 Long Island Music Hall of Fame Induction Gala, in an event that is sure to rival last year’s festivities. (See the list of inductees below). This year’s Queens induction venue is especially significant, given the connections that many of the 2007 nominees and presenters have to the borough. More about this at www.limusichalloffame.org.

D.M.C. (Darryl McDaniels) is a founder of the seminal rap group Run-D.M.C, which brought new fashion, dances and language to popular culture. Their self-titled first album -- the first rap record to go gold -- was the first of a string of gold, platinum and multi-platinum releases. More than any other hip-hop group, Run-D.M.C. is responsible for the sound and style of the music. This trio from Hollis, Queens consisted of Joseph Simmons (Run), D.M.C., and the late Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay). The group broke down the barrier of rap versus rock with the release of Raising Hell, which featured "Walk this Way", recorded with Aerosmith. D.M.C. is a member of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame's Education Advisory Board. Visit him online at http://www.me-dmc.com/.

D.M.C. will be inducting his friends and fellow rap music pioneers Public Enemy into the Hall at this year’s event.

LIMHOF Chairman Richard L’ Hommedieu said: “We’re very excited that D.M.C., one of the great shapers of hip-hop music and style, has agreed to join Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J and so many others to help us celebrate Long Island’s rich musical heritage. We look forward to a great evening in October.”

(Long Island, NY)— Folk music legend Oscar Brand, hip-hop pioneer Kurtis Blow and guitarist Vince Martell of Vanilla Fudge have been added to the attendees list for The Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s (www.limusichalloffame.org) second annual Induction Gala on October 21st at the Colden Auditorium of the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College.

Great Neck-resident Oscar Brand is a folk singer, recording artist (nearly 100 albums), songwriter (more than 300 songs), guitarist and radio broadcaster. He is the host of WNYC’s Folk Song Festival. The show has run more or less continuously since 1945, making it one of the longest-running shows on radio or television, and the longest-running radio show with the same host, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He is also a TV host (Peabody Awards in 1982 and 1997), Broadway musical composer, musicologist, historian, children's recording artist and curator of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was also on the panel that created Sesame Street. Visit his website at http://www.oscarbrand.com.

As the first commercially successful rap artist, Kurtis Blow is a towering figure in hip-hop history. His popularity and charisma helped prove that rap music was something more than a flash-in-the-pan novelty. Blow was the first rapper to sign with (and release an album for) a major label; the first to have a single certified gold (1980's landmark "The Breaks"); the first to embark on a worldwide concert tour; and the first to cement rap's mainstream marketability by signing an endorsement deal. More about him at http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/blow_kurtis/bio.jhtml.

Lead guitarist of Vanilla Fudge Vince Martell has received worldwide recognition for his musicianship and originality. His riff in the Vanilla Fudge chart topper, "You Keep Me Hangin' On," is ranked the number four heaviest guitar riff of all time by Guitar Magazine. The hit placed Vanilla Fudge at number six on the Billboard Charts in the U.S.A. and at number two on the charts in England, second only to The Beatles. The Vince Martell Live Group, his solo project, has played to sold-out audiences in the tri-state area. Visit him online at http://www.rockersusa.com/vincemartell/.
